An HbA1c test measures average blood glucose over the previous two to three months. It is not a same-day glucose measurement.
No fasting is needed when HbA1c is booked on its own. Recent food, drinks and usual activity do not materially change the result. If your booking includes fasting glucose, a lipid profile or another fasting test, follow the preparation instructions for that combined order.
Tell your doctor or collection team if you have anaemia, recent blood loss or a blood transfusion, are pregnant, or have a condition affecting red blood cells. These factors can affect how an HbA1c result is interpreted. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your doctor tells you to.
A routine blood draw is low risk. You may feel a brief sting when the needle goes in, and some people notice temporary bruising, soreness or light-headedness afterwards. Fainting and infection are uncommon. The sample is collected at your home by a trained phlebotomist using sterile equipment, and the draw takes only a few minutes. If you feel unwell during or after collection, tell the phlebotomist or speak to your doctor.
Educational guide only. The Thyrocare sample-report range is shown in the Reports & Ranges section. For your own result, use the range on your final report and discuss it with your clinician.
